The only downside to having your bot farm/rigs local is when you have a light switch connected to your internet router and a guest turns it off thinking its a light... 

Generally this only affects the top socket, its wired that way for lamps and etc in rooms without fixed lighting. Move it to the other socket and its no longer an issue.

Change the light switch to electrocute people who touch it

Wow look at Mr. Friendly over here that has people wanting to visit his house. We are Runescape players so we shouldn't have friends imo.

I didn't build my apartment so the layout isn't my choice, and that switch controls one plug, which is the one right beside the ethernet connection.

Worst case, tape the switch. This isn't a downside to botting, this is what we call at work an ID 10 T error, or a PEBKAC.
