i've heard straight couples call each other partneras well so maybe they're also business partners or could be short for life partner

Just a weird concept, don't you think? It's not like it's randomly one or two...it's all of them.

im straight and before getting married me and my wife would say partner ...boyfriend/girlfriend seems like what you would say in your teens.

because it's less embarrassing than saying boyfriend/girlfriend when they themself are of the same gender

imo i think it's less intimate. I think about when a teacher/professor says pick a partner, you're only together for a certain period of time.
