In the latest Runescape myth busters, the devs/mods confirmed the cannon works with range bonus. The higher your range bonus is, the better the hits and the better the accuracy =) They didn't say anything about wielding a melee wepeon to gain better accuracy bonus ... Attack and Ranged has no correlation. Like what? Ranged utilizing a combat melee stat? It doesn't make any sense. Ranged gear only adds bonus to its range bonus and damage. A bow would make more sense.
