It's always better owning. Most people rent their entire lives and pay rent monthly when they could just buy a house and pay off the mortgage in a few years and be done with it.

Also, not everyone wants to be stuck in the same place for the rest of their lives (or until they move to a retirement place).

 

It isn't always better owning, it's a matter of preference and even from an economical point of view your statement isn't always true (if you are a homeowner and your house burns down for example).
