If your aim is to eventually make advanced scripts then you shouldn't start with OSBot scripting. You very well could start there, and it would probably be fun to do so (it was for me and that's how I started years ago with other bots), but you'll be doing a lot of guesswork and scratching your head trying to understand what's going wrong and why because you won't have a basic, fundamental understanding of programming or the Java language. If you only want to learn how to make basic scripts over the summer then your approach is appropriate. If you want to make advanced scripts, then it'll take longer than summer break, and will require that you learn how to actually program to some degree, not just script for this bot or perhaps even just code within Java. In fact, trying to skip ahead and learn "how do I do this intermediate thing" before knowing "why should I do this basic thing rather than that basic thing" (sorry if that doesn't make sense) could hurt you in the long-term because fundamentals are as important to programming as they are to baseball (best analogy I could come up with, sue me). Basically, do you want to make a powerminer that can drop ore and detect a smoking rock? If so, that's a great start; play around with scripting over break. You could probably just look at the sources of different mining scripts (by decompiling them if sources aren't provided) while trial and error scripting with an IDE (Netbeans, eclipse, etc. which will outright tell you what's wrong and often suggest solutions) and then have a basic enough understanding of what they're doing to create your own script. If you choose such a course for yourself, then I highly recommend an iterative design, which at its most basic and relevant (for you) definition means "get something to work, learn why it works, and apply what you've learned to what you do next." Very basic example: figure out how to detect a valid rock to mine and confirm your method works -> a smoking rock is the opposite of what you need to mine -> use how you detected a valid rock to detect a smoking rock and build your anti-smoking-rock code onto that. Or, do you want to make a reliable green dragon killer and banker or barrows script? Then you probably (almost definitely) want to start from the bottom of Java and programming essentials and work your way up over a significant period of time because you'll need a firm grasp on what you're doing. I made "reliable" bold because while it's not outright difficult to make such scripts, it does require a bit of knowledge to implement sound logic which can anticipate and handle various circumstances within RuneScape that could break the script, as well as "exceptions" and other errors you will encounter within Java programming. Accounting for all the seemingly small, myriad things that could go wrong within a script or whatever you create can make all the difference between what people consider to be novice or professional. tl;dr make simple scripts by jumping into scripting, make advanced scripts by learning programming.
  6. You should keep in mind that the developers and maintainers of this bot do not care about people who don't make them profit. This bot was not created out of goodwill; it was created to make money. And money is what the devs make. That's why I pointed out that lesser versions of premium scripts attract users to the premium script. If a professional programmer actually came along and offered the best scripts for free, he'd be banned. Period. This site is a business. Let's not forget that and remain realistic in this discussion.

Tell your friend to request that they install Gnome and VNC or else he's going to cancel/reverse his payment. They'll probably do it. In the future, tell your friend to contact the company before he purchases anything. "If I place an order can you install Gnome and VNC so that I can have something closer to Windows to use?" "No, sorry." "No problem, I'll go somewhere else, thanks!"
  8. Local/free scripts should be unregulated except for security. Users who wish to buy a reliable script from professionals know to turn to the SDN. Having even the lacking, but still existent free/local scripts draws more general users to the website. As an example: a new User registers and downloads the bot to see what's up. He or she uses a free, simple bot, that performs okay. The User then purchases a more robust script once seeing that the bot and community itself is capable of providing real quality. As for a premium law crafter losing sales to local/free scripts that also do laws -- make the premium script better. Simple as that. Add more functionality and reliability than the other and there's not a problem. A goldfarmer is going to buy the premium, better script, and non-goldfarmers most likely aren't going to buy VIP or a premium script anyways. Such light users, running a free script on one account, are irrelevant and any argument concerning them is invalid. I do agree with OPs thoughts on SDN scripts, though.
  9. I was just posting words. You guys revealing that I was posting spoilers have ruined the experience for everyone. You gave context to nothing in particular. Thanks Awesome and Ely. I hope you're proud of yourselves.

  11. OSBot could be on versionJustPastSaturnHalfwayToUranus and these guys would still make money. I'm somewhat in favor "shut up idiot here is bot."
  12. No! Why?? How can you be so inconsiderate? Do you not realize how the creators of OSBot operate at a negative to HSBC North America Holdings? Think twice before you are so cruel.

  15. Be confident. Be kind. Understand that this girl is most likely not the one you will end up with. So, have fun, and learn how to ask girls out, and how to date them. Again, confidence is everything. It really doesn't matter who you are -- it's who you appear to be, especially at your age. Hell, for any age, you just have to have confidence, even if you don't have it. Good luck.

  17. Java: How to Program by Deitel. Starts from the beginning, goes up to multi-threading and TCP/IP protocols and such. Tons of clean, well commented code, with projects that add new material as you progress through the chapters. Every chapter, at the end, has optional lessons over GUI (there is a dedicated chapter to it), wrap-ups, and quizzes with answers. Also will teach you UML and some very basic software engineering principles.
  18. You chose to use OSBot. You chose to save your username/password locally (this means only on your computer). The only way someone hacked you via OSBot is if you used the same password for your RuneScape account as your forum account, which is dumb, or if you PMed someone your RS user/pw, which is also dumb. Take responsibility for your own poor judgement and stop blaming OSBot, especially when you have 6 posts and no VIP (leecher).
