If I'm buying something and I get tricked into a 'PM trap', I should be responsible since I'm the one who fell for it and it directly caused someone to get scammed.

If an impostor just has a similar Skype and scams, that's the sellers fault. If the impostor gets the buyer to PM and tricks them, it should be the buyers fault - whoever got tricked into the PM trap - since they weren't careful enough.

It's also the sellers fault, but still mainly the buyers (or whoever is the trusted seller making the other person go first).

Too many instances of this going on and impostors are getting away with it - if it's even an impostor.

I kind of agree ... But PM traps can be done many different ways, some won't even be recognized as a PM trap at all eg:

 

"hey RoomScape, I was wondering if you can MM for us, if so can pm userx to say that you're mming for him? Cheers"

 

Action: roomscape pm's something

Result: roomscape's imposter successfully verified his fake identity

I'm not that ignorant as to fall for that. I fell for a PM trap once about a year or two ago and I've learned from that one mistake. People tell me to PM screenies or chat logs and I refuse. They call me a scammer and delete my Skype, but I don't care.

It's not that hard to prevent a PM trap or turn it against the impostor, but it's too easy to fall for it and people just don't care/get lazy.

Also, whenever I MM, I make a group chat with both users requesting them to post their Skype in the PM. That prevents any impostors and gives me a record of their Skype.

stupid people deserved to be scammed its the only way they will learn, by taking a complete screenshot of the convo/skype address and pm'ing it to said user i feel 0% responsibility if they get scammed

I agree.

I fought for this in a previous dispute but was turned down. It doesn't make any sense that only one party should be effected because the buyer didn't provide a sufficient confirmation.

Depends on the reason why they were killed.

If you go and offend someone repeatedly and then they end up killing you, yes. You're at fault.

There are few cases where people randomly die be nothing more than a big coincidence.

And people who deliberately cause their traders to be scammed through nothing more than sheer ignorance and arrogance shouldn't be allowed in the market.

If you trade someone and they want you to go first, what would you do:

1) look at their fb number.

2) Look through their fb to see what people said about them.

And most importantly:

Check dates, if last feedback is > 2 weeks old, user might:

- Scam quit

- Be hijacked

I feel the same way. Getting scammed because you weren't careful enough should be the sole responsibility of the buyer. It takes about 2 minutes to verify a trade as legitimate in the first place.

people just don't take care in reading things during trades.

I would be all for this rule change, no one I mean no one should pm saying "yeah its me on skype" ALWAYS take screen shots of the conversation you are having and always show the skype you are talking to etc and make them respond. I feel like they should be held accountable too.

It should be something along the lines that if the person requires a PM and you fall for a PM trap, you're half responsible for any proven amount of money stolen (screenshots should be required). If the person traded an impostor, it's just their fault for their blatant ignorance.

 

Although I'm for this, I can try to see users trying to frame people and force them into a pm trap and paying the gp to their 'friend' (the impostor) hoping to get compensated half of that from the person.

 

Even so....that'll be more of a reason for big traders to be clear about what they PM.

It's a shame that this happens in such a community.
