Jagex and Your IP Address

Featured Replies

Today, Jagex created an OSRS news post titled Protecting Game Integrity.  Among other things related to botting, they discussed IP addresses and what players can do to better protect themselves from DDoS attacks and other comprimises. In that section of the post, they said: "Whilst we aren't able to police your individual IP address, we can help educate you with the best advice to protecting it."

While this statement is pretty vague, it could give us a bit of insight into Jagex's ability to monitor players' IP addresses. Might this suggest that Jagex can't actually view your IP address? Does this new information affect how us botters should view IP handling/use of proxies?

What do you think?

Well OSBot super mods and admins can view anyone's IP if they have the IP to begin with. But I'm sure Mald can see the accounts conneted to each IP just by searching my name so it would be the same thing pretty much

I wonder how that'll affect with literally the entire gold farming industry revolving around proxies and VPNs...huh.
Nah lol, not big news at all. Common sense and they're overblowing their effort to stop bots.

Mate it says police your individual IP , in other words it means they cannot monitor your IP activities to be able to identify that you have been ddosed.....

Really? and where can i see that?

If you connect to any server over the internet, they can see your ip

Jagex getting your IP is as simple as you logging into their website or the game. They see the connection from your address to their servers and then bam thats it, there is most likely a log of it kept. What they are saying is that they can't police individual addresses and find out if Sam DID actually get DDoSed or whether he just got real pissed one day and went PKing and died with all his most valuable shit. Its really important with all the DMM tourny hype and stuff similar to that.

at the top, where it says you last logged in earlier today or w.e if you havent logged in for like a week it does it. or atleast it use to

when you go to their site or open their game it logs the ip connecting to it. always been around?

I remember it displaying that at one point, but I haven't seen that when I log onto any client anymore. And it's been that way for quite sometime now. For me at least.

I also remember seeing this... wonder what happened to it?

I can see the reasoning behind removing it though.

I feel as though what they mean by their post is that they can't prevent players from visiting external websites and jeopardizing their IP address.
