I think you shouldn't write with background color on your text, and I have no opinion on the matters, as I don't have enough information on the subject to draw any conclusions having any meaningful input.

It's what happens when you copy and pasta.

and without religion, most people wouldn't have hope.

The world would be a very dull place without it.

if somebody proves that god isnt real there would be millions of people killing themselves, knowing they lived a lie a total chaos in the entire world

The funny part is that he can't be disproven, he is infinite he is the always more to the situation that's there. (not saying god is real)

following books written by men is stupid to believe in imo.... maybe there is a divine being ..to believe that science has proved god doesn't' exist is silly as we still do not know why we are here everything is all theory ..to understand the universe would be to understand god ...god doesn't have to be a entity ..in a way it could be an equation ...but more to the point people believe we live a atheist way of life but when all are laws revolve around christian values. it seems we will never truly get rid of religion, just like Che Guevara said before he died"Shoot me, you coward! You are only going to kill a man" the bible is just a book ..the ideology will always remain

I'm religious. I'm not sure I would've been if I hadn't been raised in a religious family, but I love who it makes me as a person. It honestly keeps me in a straight arrow in terms of my morals. It is some sort of personal guidance, and like some mentioned on the thread, it certainly is a way to maintain hope. It is very good to know that not everything is in your control, that there is a higher power that has a plan. This way you don't stress too much. It makes things easier, from day to day stress to serious things like mourning death.

Religion is a very beautiful thing. Most of my friends are atheists or just not completely religious and it doesn't make them bad people. As long as someone has a moral code, then he'll be a good person. Religion provides, in my opinion, a perfect moral code if followed properly.

I believe the image of religion is tarnished by politics. Many atrocities are blamed on religion, like all these terrorist attacks by "extremists" taking place all over the world, which I don't believe in. I'm believe in Islam, and real Islam doesn't condone behaviour that's taking place by people in power in the middle east, for example. So these are bad people to derive an opinion/judgement on religion based on their actions. If you look past the governments and the politics and meet the people, you would be able to see the beauty of religion because it's heavily embedded in middle eastern culture (whether it's islamic, christian or jewish faith - yes, contrary to popular belief, there are many arabs/middle eastern people that aren't muslim). There is a certain warmth and link between the people that I think is missing in North america (lived in Canada almost my entire life) due to a secular approach to life in general.

Basically, religion is what you make of it and the way you interpret it. It is definitely used for bad causes and is commonly a scapegoat/excuse, but for the overwhelming most part, it is good.

Interesting thread, this is a deep topic that could be heavily debated, that's just my brief 2 cents.

Cheers.

PS: Religion and science are NOT mutually exclusive. I'm a scientist and most of the professors, some of the biggest scientists in the world, that I've had are really religious. Again, to make these two things mutually exclusive is to interpret religion in a bad way.

You cannot be a scientist and not believe in the theory of evolution. The only thing that religion says (Islam at least, although all religions are one of the same when looking at original testaments), is that we are not descendent of monkeys, etc. WHICH WE ARE NOT. We have a common ancestor, but we are not descendent of modern monkeys.

Another misinterpretation (in my opinion) is the whole "God built the world in 7 days". Why does it have to be taken so literally? I interpret it as "God created the work frame of the world in 7 days" and let evolution play its course. That's where science kicks in. I believe science is God's work that has been set in motion rather than anything else.

In fact, the deeper you go into science, the more you realize that none of this is possible without divine work. It's so intricate, so precise. It works the way that it is, any changed factor could lead to the destruction of the Earth as we know it. How could've all of these factors just conveniently line up like that? I don't believe it is a mere coincidence.

That was a long edit. :P

Religion simply teaches humans our morals and separates what is right and what is wrong.

Without, there's no need for weak minded people who can't accept the possibility that our existence has no meaning. So many kids get brainwashed at young age by their families. Long story short, no thanks to religions.

You sir, deserve a medal!

I think this life is a test. Many people try to get u loose from god. You can do whatever you like,  at the end of the road you'll regret your black being that lived inside of you.

The point that there are wars and bad things happening, is simply those people failing the test.

What would the world be if god said Life=Hell, deal with it?

People would commit suicide, to just reach heaven, thats why taking a life is a sin to.

You people and i mean the maker of this topic is also willingly/unwillingly trying to get people loose from god.

You sir, will regret this. No threath its a fact.

Religion is a plague, it has held man kind back for thousands of years. I still don't understand how people could believe in a god, I guess that's what happens when you're brainwashed by parents. Many years from now the world will wake up and laugh at the fools who fell for such silly tales.

On the origin of species by means of natural selection.

Wars over religion, I think it would be better without.

(but then again, I am not one too tell you how to live your life, I would rather focus on more important things like family, friends, instead of worrying about a pit of hell, or whatever you may believe.)

Ah the time old question. Very complicated matter saying the influence it has on modern society and the human race as a whole.

If I had to pick one, with or without, it would be without.

The human race is thousands of years behind where we should be, the dark ages alone surpressed 800 years of scientific progress, calling anything that questioned anything in the bible blasphemous and most likely resulting in your execution. Even modern society the wheels of science grind and churn against religion. The wonders of stem-cells has all but been halted because of religious ideology. Sociology we see groups bigotted and shamed because of religious ideology (Read:Homosexuals), who are denied the very same rights everyone else has.

I also believes it clouds the entire political process. With senators and candidates claiming who loves god more, and if anyone is godless they are shamed. Some candidates have even said if someone is an athiest they should be denied the same rights as Americans because a true American is a christian.

It clouds peoples judgement, impedes otherwise sophisticated minds, breads hateful redirect, and this is just the first world consequences of religion. Let's not even start on the atrocities and tragedies carried out by the masses daily in the middle east and Africa.
