That's nothing new. Coinbase reports every person who transacts over $10k USD anyway. Only thing that's new here is that UK requested it for people who were at $5k instead of the $10k they would've reported anyway.

Well, anyway this is only bad if you use BTC to buy stuff with BTC if you want to cash out your BTC from goldfarming it would still appear on your income to tax office one way or another :)

They are starting to do other countries too

This is why decentralized exchanges and P2P trading will become more important. I've been trying to exchange with other users instead of buying from Coinbase now.
