I actually had to summon it 3 times because the first two times it despawned because I couldn't kill it in time. Eventually I just said fuck it and brought an inventory full of sharks and managed to get it down to around 1/5 hp and then i did that method ^^. To get rid of the other ~4/5 hp I just wore recoils and potted up and smacked the spirit with an axe (common thing people forget to do - you got an axe from a zombie to cut the tree so you can also wear it for melee lol)

 

Same thing I did for Witch's House at level 3 (except with a p++ iron dagger) for 24 hp. You just sit at a safe spot until the monsters hp bar above its head disappears. Not sure why this works but they seem to 'forget' about you monetarily when their HP bar goes away (I think its like 1 second before it disapears, but it's a good way to mark it), and you can hit it without being attacked back. However if you hit it before the HP bar goes away it attacks you back :P
