Not sure how other people choose the scripts they buy but I personally just make a judgment on the quality/condition of the script by the last one or two pages of comments on the script thread.

You need to think they are trusted enough that they won't scam quit. And no, there is no way to secure an account so it isn't recoverable by the seller. Otherwise people would be getting into account merchanting.
