It won't -always- say invalid details. I've literally had this problem a handful of times and each time i've recovered it, the account details have been reinstated.

Don't request a password reset link. When you type in the user & Capcha and it says "do you have access to this email?" click no, and fill out the recovery form?

recover the account as "hijacked" on the website. you don't require to log in or an email attached to it.
