How much of RFD do I need to do before the dwarf will show up that i get the rock cake from, and what kind of gloves do i need to get the cake? Thanks in advance!

You dont need any gloves. You can literally do it at the first step of rfd. The requirements are fishing contest quest (10 fishing req) and thats all. I can do it for you for a cheap price if you want just pm me.

You don't even need to finish the subquest. Just get the rock cake from the dude
