So, I rear ended somebody out of a stop light last week. It was totally my fault, no excuses. I should have been paying attention. Anyway. I caught it in time to break, and I barely damaged the other person's car. They just left because they didn't care and didn't want to bother with insurance. I am insanely luck for that. 

 

The damage to my car is decent. My whole bumper is messed up and my grill is cracked. The bumper pushed into my car a bit and now the left light is misplaced and my hood stays down, but not all the way. 

 

I drive a 2002 nissan maxima and the car is an absolute beast. I have no idea if it's totaled and I haven't brought it in yet.

If the other car has a scratch, you're not totaled. It's most likely cosmetic. Before there is any chance of engine damage, your condenser and radiator would have punctured. Find a donor car on craigslist and grab a grill and bumper.

The light was red as I was pulling up but turned green before I stopped so I naturally began to speed up again, as did the person in front of me. They braked and I followed but it was too late. I followed too close and was going to fast.

Yeah that's what I figured but I think the front frame is bent. (the one that holds the bumper in place)

 

Yeah, the 3.5L spits 255 and that's in 2002. I have an automatic with 180k miles and ran a 6.4 second 0-60.
