Why does racism still exist in our Society?

Featured Replies

go back to school and learn from history. Same mistakes, same problems, only more population.

I will contradict myself several times here, and I will be called a racist, and you'd be right to some degree. I do not dislike Blacks, Whites, Asians or Hispanics. However I do feel sometimes certain races can be stereotyped to some degree where you'd more than likely be correct. I have Black friends, and they're fantastic friends, wouldn't trade them for the world. However when you see other Black people who are shooting each other, and causing problems for the general area they live in, then you begin to state something negative towards that race, where you shouldn't, as you should really say something negative about that certain person. If you were to say anything negative at all.

That is where the down fall lies, If one certain races does something bad, then more than likely you'll end up generalizing that they all must be bad. Which is illogical, as there are over 7 billion people in the world, and you couldn't class as them all being bad.

Morgon Freeman was once asked, how do we prevent racism. His reply was simply "We stop talking about it"

There's several logical reasons for why racism still exist. Let me elaborate.

I'm not racist, in any way shape or form. However, every human has a higher thinking of themselves hardwired into their brain. I don't care who you are, or what you say, everyone over their age of adolescence has experienced a racist thought in their life. I've asked several of my friends about this, different races and ethnicity's might I add, and they all said that out of absolutely nowhere they've seen someone of a different background do or say something they didn't agree with, and automatically attribute it to them being not as good as they are, specifically because of their background. I'll spare everyone of going into details about how the brain works, and why we think these things.

I'm jewish, and one day I came home from the local skate park early. My mom was in the act of asking me why, when my step sister blurted "Is it because you're a jew". Unaware of why she would say this, I remained calm. She said that when she was at the pool earlier that day, she heard two boys talking about how they'd never let a jew come into their house.

The point i'm getting to with that, is there are always outside influences to every human being living in modern society, regardless of whether they actually influence us or not.

In our technological and advanced world, you'd think there is no racism, because basic logic has no way of supporting it. We're all people and nobody can be perfect. We're all exposed to some sort of racism at one time or another, and we may not support it, but it still gets into our brains and stays there.

Some really interesting views and experiences here, thanks for your input everyone.

I think that calling someone by their skin color is racism. Shit, the word racism is racist.

WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO HAVE A WORD LIKE THAT.

If I punch a white male in the face (I'm white) then it's assault.

If I punch a black male in the face then it's assault plus a hate crime.

& ViceVersa.

People over think racism.

We shouldn't call others black or white, because in the end we were created by something for a purpose. I'm pretty sure that purpose isn't to be having a racial war against eachother.

Because there are minority's that will cause racism theirselves, unless you are someone who never leaves the house or lives on a farm you'll know what i mean.

The older generation of people was brought up around it, it's the norm for them, that's how it exists.

When the older generation die out, the younger generation (us) hopefully won't see it as normal as they did and put a stop to it eventually.

People are very stubborn and don't like change.... Idiotic I know... But there's nothing we can do to change them...

Racism has integrated itself into the fiber of people, as long as people see a difference there will be racism. Once society learns how to ignore the differences of men, that'll be the day when racism dies.

In Australia there is a lot of joking about the Aboriginal community. If I'm being totally honest I can see why. I'm not sure of the statistics but the majority of Aboriginals in Australia are living off of the Government. Even when offered help to find jobs they decline, if they don't have to work, they won't. All they do is drink and smoke, it's actually a really big problem in some country towns. Some bottle shops close or have limits to prevent the selling of Alcohol to them. White Australians of cause do it to, perhaps even more but it's mainly a problem in Aboriginal societies. We learn to thank them for the land in Schools, which personally I think is bullshit. Of course some of them contribute to Society but the majority of them is a running joke. I have no problem with Aboriginals, but I get sick and tired of the fact that we thank them for being on their land which we've turned into such a better place.

I'm not too familiar with aboriginals on the Australian continent but regardless of their situation it isn't right to discriminate against them, there isn't any justification you can use. You're not one of them so you don't know the trials and tribulations that they through. I'm African American, and I have nothing against white people, but look at the history of white people on every civilization they're in they always find a way to separate themselves from the other people, labeling the latter as something less than them.

It's hard to argue this point unless you know Aboriginal culture because it's quite different to things you're used to.

I grew up in a football program where all the black kids beat the shit out of us white boys. My dad would skip school growing up because he'd get the shit beat out of him on the way home. I've never had good experiences with black people. Why shouldn't I hold something against them? With that said I intellectually don't care about race. My limited scope of experience in southern Texas does not reflect an entire race of people. I'm nice to every one I meet. Personally, however, I just avoid them. Also, Vietnamese people are rude, but that's a matter of culture.
