"Java Expert" Rank

Pretty much all the other sites have something like this, but I think it would be cool to have a rank that truly shows their a master of Java. Just a few examples of what I think the requirements should be:

  1. High knowledge of Java (obviously)
  2. Be familiar with and be able to manipulate bytecode
  3. Understand how to use/develop algorithms such as A* and Dijkstra
  4. A couple more ofc

Oh yeah, and the PiP/name glow should be white/black glow biggrin.png

Some of those requirements, like the graph theory algorithms, aren't really Java related... And doesn't Alek already have the while/black glow thing? :P

Well I guess you could change the name of it to something else, just like other sites have the specialist or scholar ranks :p

And wow I completely forgot he had that fml.

This is purely elitism, however saying that we already have the "Official script writer' rank means bullshit for it does not mean you are actually good at java, you just know how to write scripts. Also, the requirements stated in OP are odd because you don't need to know bytecode to be an expert at Java, nor do algorithms have anything to do with the actual language. If the staff were to implement such a rank, we'd at least need proper requirements.

I support this idea! Being that this client directly deals with Java, I think it could prove very helpful for other writers that need help; instead of bouncing from one person to another trying to get a correct answer, they would be able to find a writer that knows what they are talking about, and will most likely get the correct answer quicker.

Though if this does get approved I feel that it should be limited and have strict requirements, to keep the rank somewhat prestigious. It should not become a rank that is thrown to anyone that asks, though only to people who took the time to learn a programming language fluently.

If someone has taken the time to actually learn Java(Any programming language for that matter) fluently, and has not just skipped ahead to working with a API, should be recognized in my opinion; it's a lot of work.

I'm not saying I should get this rank, because personally I don't even think I'm even close to deserving this rank, I'm just saying it's a pretty good idea!

I find it difficult to believe that a rank would be created with the sole purpose of being a Java expert instead of an expert in programming/comp sci/etc. Realistically, once you know a few languages, you "know" most of them and it's a matter of applying knowledge than simply writing code.

I suppose if you knew a lot about the internals of the JVM and such, then perhaps I could accept a "Java Expert" rank. But it seems rather superficial on a lot of sites.

@Parameter

I would think that you would need a working knowledge of the JVM, and by extension, bytecode and class file formats, etc. to be an "expert".

I was thinking incorrectly when I titled the thread tongue.png I do agree it should be about just programming experience in general. Overall I think it would be beneficial because there would be a select few "elite" members that could be recognized by the community as people that understand the world of computer science in depth.

Also, there's no real programming ranks on the site. Yes there's ranks for being a scripter, however that's only for scripting/OSBot, not real programming.
