My recommendations for SDN scripts, local scripts, and Official Script Writers

Featured Replies

Hello everybody!

Recently there have been some changes to how ranks work around here, and some discussion with what belongs on the SDN, so here are my recommendations of how it all should work:

Official Script Writer:

- There will be an official monthly poll in the contest section where 5 official script writers can be voted in.

- Only 5 users can have the rank at any given time. If you're not voted in again, you lose your rank.

- To apply to the contest, you will be judged by your name and your best script. For example, I could be judged for SuperScript Factory, or @XavierM could be judged for ATMercher.

- You need to be an official script writer to submit a paid script. If you lose your rank, your paid scripts will remain on the SDN, but you won't be able to submit any more.

SDN Scripts:

- To submit a script to the SDN, you must submit a programming resume as if it were a job. You need to show that you are an experienced programmer, and not just a beginner.

- The script must not only do one small task, it must do a large task, or various small tasks. This means that you can not submit an Edgeville yew chopper, but you will be able to submit an AIO Woodcutter.

- The script must be shown to run for over 72 hours straight. The SDN is for the best, and only the best.

- All SDN scripts must have a video demonstrating how the script works, along with a minimum of 5 screenshots.

- You must prove that there is a demand for the script if it's not already obvious. If there is already an AIO woodcutter that functions correctly, there is no need for your script. Please take a few minutes to innovate, OSBot really needs this.

Paid SDN Scripts:

- These scripts must follow all of the rules stated in the SDN Scripts section.

- As stated in the Official Script Writer section, you must be an Official Script Writer to submit any paid scripts.

- Paid scripts must be truly exceptional, please do not submit an AIO Tanner for $7.99/month.

- Paid scripts must have some sort of intelligent anti ban system.

- All paid scripts will get their own section, along with a support subsection, similar to SuperScript Factory's section. This will reduce frustration among paying script users.

Local Scripts:

- Local scripts are an important part of our community, so please don't spam our sections.

- All local scripts should be screened by moderators before the topic is posted. This will stop useless scripts from being posted.

- All local script writers must prove that their script has ran for a minimum of 24 hours straight.

- All local scripts must have a video demonstrating how their script works, along with a minimum of 3 screenshots.

- Official Script Writers should have the ability to remove broken scripts from the local scripts section as if they were moderators. Too often users are confused when their under updated scripts stop working.

Please share your opinion on what you think of my recommendations, I truly hope for an increase of quality scripts on OSBot.

I truly completely agree with you. Some scripts have never met these requirements or come close to it.

A good example would be starks scripts they were never flawless yet he still made a ton of money off selling them lol

Only thing I really like is the locale scripts and improving the quality of the sdn.

I agree with most of your points except your reference of my tanning script. Don't forget, some scripts are paid for the good of the RS economy not just because of exceptional coding. In the end, it is the product which is being sold.

Edit: Who are you to judge whether a script is truly exceptional?

Why does OSBot care about the RuneScape economy?

Anyway, if I can make your script with SuperScript Factory in under 2 minutes, your script isn't exceptional.

SSF tooks you days, no, weeks to complete. If it didn't you're either a genius or a downright idiot. Jotting down functions is not scripting for your information.

I support this, but I try my best to go through out-dated scripts when I have time, so that part may not be needed.

I like the track your on with some of these concepts, I just think we lack the management to fully implement said changes :\

Scripts should be tested for longer and not released until it's bug free. No need for stricter guidelines like you suggested. Only a select few would be able to make money which isn't fair for other dedicated scripters.

With these guidelines there will be far less SDN upload requests, less complaints and refunds from customers, less "I got hacked from x script" threads, and better organization. It should make things easier for the staff (especially Raflesia).

The refunds and scripts not working can be tested by running the script and not letting them release it until the bugs are fixed. This would require someone to do this. Free scripts should also be uploaded to sdn and it should be  mandatory or else you can't release.

I like the idea of everything besides the local scripts, local scripts are just there for the community to share whatever they have learnt. A begginer scripter needs some people to test out his scripts and chances are it probably cant run for 2 hours, so with your theory, he cant even post it on the local scripts section for people to try it out and he can improve it? That's a bit harsh IMO.. not everyone is as talented as you mate..

There's nothing stating that he can't have his friends test it.

I don't think it should be complicated. I think there should be Official Script Writer and just Script Writer.

Script Writers write good scripts.

Official Script Writers write great scripts and many of them.

Only 5 official script developers at a time?

So only those people can release paid scripts?

Not that cool....
