When I click download it downloads it as a file which cannot be opened. I have tried downloading Java but it says " Windows has detected a problem with this file" then just cancels it.

Make sure you're downloading Java from the correct website. If you are, figure out what's blocking the download. Should be fairly simple to get it working.

Tried the site, also tried disabling my firewall still doesn't download

Try a different browser

Tried that. Didn't work. It opens the java installer then says it is not a published author so it has no digital signature

The signature problem is only present in the online installer version.

Try the offline installer: Java Downloads for All Operating Systems

If all else fails, just download a portable version of the java and run it with a bat file. The process is a bit complicated if you are not familiar with command line.

I have seen so strange stuff happening to the jar file

Disable windows defender if you can?
