best IDE for scripting java/what IDE does everyone use?

I use eclipse, but they're all just as good as each other really. The key is to learn how to use it properly, and stick with it from there.

It's worth considering whether or not it's easy to get your projects out of the IDE as well

IntelliJ is likely the most popular, and if you ever decide to move into other industries, it functions the same as Android Studio.

started with eclipse, i think i will continue with it. intelliJ looks nice though.

Do you have any objective specific reasons that make it better than Eclipse? I was told they were both good. I choose eclipse but would be willing to change if there are actual reasons to. Or is this a "it's the one I use so it must be better" situation?

well the latter is good reason (im mod btw)

  •  save ur eyes (also has theme called dracula that is a grey)
  • 2 click export to jar
  • easier organization
  • better ide with the features

For light-weight Java projects (which most bot scripts tend to be) -> Visual Studio Code

Heavier Java projects -> IntelliJ.  I don't expect Eclipse  to catch up with IntelliJ anytime soon.
