Microsoft Security Essentials.

Premium antivirus softwares are a scam, they cant protect against a stupid user.

The problem lies in the fact that you expect to be able download any files from the internet. Even the premium softwares wont protect you against that.

Avast is garbage only good free anti-virus is MBAM hands down.

I use AVG Free for the general protection, and if I suspect any threats I run a full-PC AVG scan and a full-PC MBAM scan as well.

MBAM is for malware not viruses...

Here's what I do. Don't use firewall or AV, but also....don't install malware/viruses. If you need to run suspicious software do it on a virtual machine or sandox (preferably both).

>profit???

If the virus is already destroying your computer with bloat (which I don't particularly believe), you might as well wipe the thing. Otherwise I can see your "requesting self ban" request in 2 months if you don't. Also don't torrent antivirus, or torrent anything for that matter.

MBAM + WD for me, I only really visit OSBot, Stack Overflow, and MSDN docs.
