I am currently running a (non-runescape) private server with 1100+ people online at this very moment, very constant database updates when ever people change their looks etc (all the time lol) and never had a database issue.. If you want, I can take a look. It was a memory issue. it's ran in a virtualized enviornment and had too little memory available.
