Exactly, it's an annoying idea and concept to begin with. I'm sure it sounds smart and all, but it's actually stupid and annoying. I've been saying this since the very start and they've been ignoring me all along.

Not really. Did you try sending him the voucher? If it didn't work try again. Maybe he copied/pasted and in the copy was some extra text or some spaces and that's why he couldn't redeem it. Have him try it again. Skype me if you need help.
