Scam Deterrent / Feedback Wipe

Featured Replies

After all of these high profile scams lately I came to the realization that something needs to be done to deter people with high feedback from scamming. Someone said something very similar to this in the wake of the pceman/logical scam that really sounded like a smart idea.

Suggestion: My suggestion is that all feedback acquired before a scam should be removed after a scam occurs and that person is proven to have scammed. *This does not include someone getting hacked and the hacker scamming through the hacked account nor does it include a worker from a service scamming where the service owner is obligated to refund the victim*. This is purely aimed towards someone who scams on their own osbot account and is proven to be the person who scammed.

I believe this would deter some of the higher feedback people from scamming and deciding to pay it back, then entering back into the community with their same feedback still in tact like nothing ever happened. It seems that some people feel as if they didn't scam enough the first time around so they pay off their first scam attempt in hopes that they can scam more money at a later date. This suggestion is aimed to stop the more high profiled guys from attempting a scam at all by knowing there is a threat of feedback wipe/reset possible if it is proven to be them that scammed.

If you have anything you'd like me to add feel free to post it here or pm me.

Another good suggestion from Varc:

I actually think a good method would be to place the user in TWC (if they were to refund and return) and put a complete market block on them, no access to the market section whatsoever, for a period decided by the mods. Temporary removal of their feedback for this duration so alls they have is a TWC PiP + Market ban PiP alongside it. Also a negative feedback so when they are allowed back into the market people will see there feedback but know they did indeed scam at some point even if they did refund.

What i'm talking about is a bit different to you, but i still think it would be a good thing to implement, if possible of course.

If you scam, you should just be perm banned from the site with no chance of return. If you feel bad after doing so and want to repay the user, feel free but you should still stay banned.

Unless it was not done on purpose which, in some cases is possible.

Although yeah, I agree.

support cause i need +1 :)

Paying back to become a part of the community again is the #1 incentive to refund, trust me I have experience

Really good idea tbh. Support.

If they scam, they should be banned. Why would their fb be deleted instead of them being banned?

This isn't his idea, lol. This is so old it's stupid.

And there are cases where staff f's up and determines someone to have scammed when they haven't. Once a fb is deleted, it can't be undone. What happens when staff messes up?

No support.

Hes speaking about the people who are put in the TWC due to scamming then refunding.

I feel that they should be permanently banned if they are proven TO HAVE THE INTENT of scamming. This is how it works in the legal system as well. If you have no intent of killing someone you will still be charged with manslaughter for an irreversible action. In this case if the user has no intent or mens rea, they should be put in TWC indefinitely until both parties are satisfied. On the other side of the coin, if they DO have intent, they should be banned permanently and unquestioningly even if they refund or attempt to make amends. They have proven that they are capable of and WILL scam given the right circumstances and for an appropriate amount.

Thank you for reading and let me know your thoughts regarding this matter.

Perma banned AND IP banned, so they cant create new acc, not even with proxy, vpn, anything (if its possible)

Lol, IP ban only applies to one single IP. That's definitely not possible...

Not really sure if you actually read the thread or are just posting off seeing the title. The feedback wipe would ONLY happen if the osbot team knows 100% that it was this person who scammed and this person pays back what they scammed. Like I said above, this does not include people who were hacked, a worker who scams, or anyone else scamming through your account.

This is purely for those people who are already proven to have scammed on their own account and they decide to refund the victim at a later date. I doubt many people are going to be interested in paying money back for a scam where they were falsely banned by the staff. It's more likely that they will appeal the ban before issuing any refund.

This is not a suggestion that feedback wipes should happen in place of a ban. Please go back and actually read the thread before posting, but I'll thank you anyway for your constructive criticism.

This could work as well and may even be a better idea. Just implement something that temporarily hides a users feedback until their market block is gone and their twc pip is removed.
