I would recommend reading up on it some more to see what it actually does, the description might help why you sometimes don't pickup traps. This feature is NOT designed to be the fastest exp/gp per hour. Your player will stop doing what it is doing for various amounts of time when the feature kicks in. Your traps will sometimes fall, or things won't get tended to fast enough, which is supposed to simulate you not paying attention to the game. Additionally, the mouse will move outside of the screen, and your player will seem to have become "afk".
