Yeah 1080p is fine, though this is personal preference, I would recommend looking at IPS panels.

I'd never recommend buying a monitor that isn't IPS, typically other panel types will look awful in comparison.

I would've picked both a different GPU vendor and a different CPU heatsink, no point buying an AIO if he won't overclock.

The motherboard is also questionable, an mATX with only two RAM DIMMS, not to mention he has zero SATA ports for extra HDD's.

I didn't look into which gpu vendors are good this generation, I just went for a cheap one that fits in the case and looks ok and you are right about the CPU cooler.

 

If you had seen the case, I expect the motherboard choice would have made more sense:

• It's mini-ITX so it's very small and the only size that fits into this case
• 2 DIMM slots are standard on this size motherboard and I put in 16GB of RAM anyways so he is unlikely to need to upgrade

I know that it's traditional to get a mid tower/micro atx/full tower but when it doesn't impact on performance and you won't be using more than one PCIe card I really think that there isn't any reason to not get a mITX system since it's so much more portable and wastes less desk space. What do you think?

Typically you'll want to look at either Asus/MSI cards and XFX (Dual Dissipation) if available.

I had wondered if the case was mITX, though that case costs an awful lot.

I personally would recommend an mATX build at least, that way the system can fit a multitude of upgrades at a later date, mITX (naturally) results in a severe loss of interfaces.

HDD wise it's better to leave upgrade options available, that way if OP does feel the necessity to upgrade, it's a viable option.

 

Unfortunately Corsair CX units aren't reliable in the slightest, the only units that are remotely reliable would be the RM/HX/AX units as they're manufactured by SeaSonic (imo the best PSU manufacturer).

 

I get where you're coming from :P Though I can't say I know anyone that has their system on their desk, and I used to believe portability was a concern.. but I carry my 750D around and tbh it's not that bad.
