Require A Mircosoft Account Skype for ALL Verified Users

Featured Replies

The amount of threats that have been given to users to pay hackers a monthly fee (or else they will get hacked) is ridiculous. What's more ridiculous is that some of these threats actually turn into reality as Skype's recovery system is extremely flawed. If a user spends enough time with Skype support they will eventually get their hands on any skype account that is registered with skype.

This is why I am proposing that there should be a requirement for all users with the ranks of:

to either own a skype account with "live:" (Mircosoft account) or not have a skype at all. What makes the Microsoft accounts more secure than registering with Skype is that you can enable a two-step verification making it nearly impossible to get hacked. Also you are registered with Microsoft rather than Skype, meaning hackers can't go to Skype support with their flawed recovery system to get your password.

It should be suggested, but not forced.

I say suggested for regular users without the ranks I listed above, but required for the ones that I have listed above. How many times have we heard a skype being hacked from a person with a rank? Users trade with trusted users to most likely to ensure that they are safe and won't be scammed. They should boost their confidence if they know that they are not talking to a hacker.

First of all, staff isn't even supposed to participate in the market. Most of them, if not all, don't even use the market and therefore that threat is nonexistent.

Secondly, you expect someone to just make a new account and start over with contacts? I have over 1.6k contacts and I'd be mad if I was forced to swap over to a new Skype because there's some important ones I have and it'll be impossible to get all my contacts over manually.

Some people have a lot of skype contacts on their current skype that they don't want to have to go through the trouble of re adding people 1 by 1. Like honestly it will take ages to add 200+ people to skype. I'm making a new one regardless though

That makes a great point, although put into the Scenario that you have been hacked. Now the hacker has access to 1.6K contacts of yours which he could potentially scam. With your 974 positive feedback, most users would believe that they should trust you and nothing should happen. I believe that staff should have to make it because users look up to staff, and most of the time follows what a staff has told them to do. If a staff's skype account was hacked, that would do a lot of damage.

Eh, after a year of being here, I've only experienced 1 person getting into my Skype account, and that's because I had the most simple password you could ever imagine.

This was ~5 months ago, and I haven't experienced anything else since then.

I'd rather not have to remake my Skype, once again.

It could and I do agree with what you're saying. Live skypes are a lot more secure and Skype is retarded, but it shouldn't be a requirement of staff. You shouldn't say have a live Skype or get demoted, that's just absurd.

Not all staff have public Skypes, but I'm saying if you do advertise a public Skype it should be live:

Certain things shouldn't be made into requirements and this is one of them. I do see where you're coming from and I've been telling people this for a while now, but switching skypes is a big thing and you always lose out on a lot of missed contacts. I personally don't even add new friend skypes half the time because I just forget to and they don't get around to adding me all the time. It's just a big hassle.

Now, if there was a way to do it with having your contacts all auto swapped over, that'd be nice and it would be so much more appealing to everyone else, but as it stands, I doubt many people will like this.

This whole two-step verification really isn't as secure as people think. What happens if an individuals phone breaks? There has to be something set up to bypass the verification in an event like this, which is exactly what a hacker would look for.

It's a good idea in the sense that you are more secure, however it's not going to prevent people from attempting to hack your account.

im not verified and even if i was i wouldnt do it i got enough contacts on mine ppl just need to be smarter when doing trades

It'll be hard to educate everyone to the point where they won't fall for scams like impostors and hacked skypes...
