IMPORTANT FIX

Hello there,

I know I’m not the most recognized user on this website or an important user like an admin or a moderator but please bear with me and take a little bit of your time to go through this chunk of text.

The only reason I’m taking my time to write this is because I seriously believe not only the forums but OsBot as a company needs to somehow regulate scripters and the way money is received from script purchases.

Why I think this? Recently I purchased Toph’s slayer, used it for 2 days and became nothing but garbage. The most “complex” script and probably one of the most expensive ones too is completely useless. The scripter apparently left and stopped developing and updating it. I don’t have access to the amount of purchases it had but I do believe it was REALLY high.

In my opinion he can’t simply leave after getting some money with no explanation at all. Administrators should (Just like Apple) charge $$$ to those who want their scripts to be released onto the SDN. Why? This will stop scripter from leaving after receiving a decent amount of money (or at least should stop them until they recuperate what they invested). Another solution that could work along with this one is NEVER giving all the profit instantly with every purchase to the scripter. He should only be able to take chunks of the profit every X period of time and if he wants to take ALL of it without a proper explanation the administrators have the right to use the source code and even assign someone they know can handle the project to keep it alive.

NOTE: For those scripts that have a price and aren’t on the SDN I don’t know how it can be handled.

Any constructive criticism is received and please no flaming. I know, together, we can bring a solution to this important issue on the website. Administrators should understand that if the users feel safe before and after purchasing a script an increment in sales should be visible.

Thank you for your time,

Fareown

Honestly speaking scripters hardly receive a decent share from their work and not to be a douchebag but you should always read the script thread and ask for a review of how the script works right now.. If you're just going in store and buying it without checking out who the writer is, how often a script is updated, how long does he take to fix bugs then honestly.. you're asking for it.

You have to understand that we don't sign any written agreement when putting a script on SDN, we just send a request providing the requested information and it's then deemed worthy by @Alek.

All paid scripts are on the SDN. Also I doubt this will happen

Yes there are, for example kOgres by Alek requires you to go to his website, send payment via PayPal and then receive a serial code for his script

If you take some time to check scripts that aren't on the SDN, some will charge you for stuff via donations or other payment methods that go beyond OsBot reach. Thats why I mentioned I didn't know how it could be handled.

I appreciate your input but saying "I doubt this will happen" Isn't helping at all. Do you think what I mentioned is a problem? Can you come up with a different solution? Now THAT is constructive.

I don't have a different solution, I was just stating my opinion, sorry if that is a problem.

Also sorry for not checking every scripts thread that is not on the SDN, I only look at script threads that appeal to me.

Maybe that's the problem? a written agreement should be implemented or something along the lines. I checked every single page the thread had looking for complaints and/or bug reports that the script had before I bought it, I'm not that stupid to go to the store and buy it before checking if the script is working or not (I know there are some who just buy it without even considering the fact that the script might not work at all). But things like this just encourage  scripters to produce something, promise customers 24/7 support after payment and then leave. SOMETHING has to be done.

A decent idea but there's only one major problem, why would they pay to code scripts and earn little money out of it? It's like renting out a nice house but you let your friend live there.

I have been wondering about holding the first 10 sales for the script for refunds on huge purchases such as the 20 dollar slayer script. Also not everyone is having problems, 80% of the time it is users that can't read how to run the script. That it doesn't support pots(3).

I like the idea you're proposing. Script worked for me as I stated in my first post for around 2 days (You can imply I knew how to set it up), but after a runescape update it stopped working. PROBLEM here is that Toph left and never came back with a fix neither an explanation.
