God and Religion

I'm not sure really, but I'm not going to hate either way.

I'm not 100% god fearing, but I'm not going to proclaim that he doesn't exist either. The world is insanely impossible to think about, and I can't tell you a valid reason to believe either way. It's your choice and that's the way it should be.

I want some motherfucking facts for all of this. REAL proof that no one just wrote the bible and that all of the things it says actually happened. Some smart as person needs to make a damn time machine and make this possible. THEN I will believe anything you show me!

That's why it's called "faith." happy.png

I am a christian surrounded by many atheist. My group of friends are atheist. They often try and turn me and I won't budge because I would rather live a life of believing in something that is not real and still be a good person, then live a life of not believing something real and go to hell (which Dustin you might want to rethink spitting in God's face if you see him because hell is eternal pain.) Having faith  is nothing bad and you can still believe a lot of science even when you are a christian.

Not trying to troll or flame, but you really don't matter. Neither do I, nor does anyone else. Humans just have a ridiculous ego and sense of self worth. Humans are just a bunch of atoms, like everything else - nothing more.

and yes you do matter. To your friends and family you matter. If you died today most of them would remember you for the rest of their lifes.

I personally believe in God, sometimes when everything just seems to be going for the worst the smallest of things can happen and you just get the feeling you're being looked after, might sound ridiculous but I'm serious :P

In my opinion no. i was born into a religious family and just never caught onto the whole god thing. I've always said the day i see god is the day i'll believe.

You don't see Oxygen but that's still there ^_^

When Obama says that ******** marriage is right because a ******** person can't change how they feel and they were born equal to any other person how can he condemn a psychopathic murderer to death who is plagued by a mental disease that makes his actions uncontrollable? He was born that way too, right? But religion comes in and tells us what is right or wrong, and saves us from this moral ambiguity.

Oh boy. First, it's very silly to compare sexuality to murder, if only because murder is hurting someone else while one's sexuality is a preference which hurts no one. Secondly, shall I turn to your bible and pull passages which support slavery, wife abuse, child abuse? The bible is absolutely not an authority on morality.

Here's your fallacy: you say you respect religion, but yet you hate those that try to force belief upon others. The problem is that some religions are based on that...

For example, certain branches of Islam believe that Jihad is the "sixth pillar", a concept that Mohammed seriously supported and what led to the conquest of much of northern Africa and the Middle East. Muslims then are taught to "kill the infidels", and I have read the Qu'ran from front cover to back cover, so I know it says this. Anyway, what I'm saying is that a postmodernistic view of "every religion is fine as long as they keep to themselves" is completely stupid and misunderstanding of what religion is. Christians believe that God is the only way to eternal life, so it is their duty to help convert anyone possible - after all, by not doing this they are effectively leaving these people to the clutches of hell.

My point is that you can't "respect religion" but also ask it to stay out of everyone's business. That's going against what religion is.

This is why people don't respect organized religion. It's absurd and archaic.

But you can confirm the existence of oxygen.

I'm an atheist. Religion is obviously a fallacy created by men to manipulate. It takes advantage of our innate desire to help others (the product of tribalism) and it provides comfort with the notion of an after-life.

The fables of Christ's birth to a virgin mother, rising from dead, and many others can be found in various other religious texts, some of which pre-date the bible. The commandments feature ideals such as do not murder which date back to Code of Hammurabi and, quite frankly, are common sense (and yet the commandments speak nothing of child molestation or other important laws).

Religion offers absolutely nothing that a secular, rational society could create without any mysticism or required faith. What's worse is that religion in many ways hinders the development of our species; a prime example of this is resistance to the scientific idea of evolution, which is absolutely supported with evidence.

OPs more of a question than a discussion lol.

I was brought up as a Muslim. I don't believe in God (Allah, w.e.) however, I'm open to the possibility there may be something but I believe that we are insignificant etc; a PC has as much life as us. I don't get why people think they are so unique, I understand why we want to be unique etc though..

I believe in god for the respect of my family, the rightful image thats brought to your mind, and the belief that you will go to heaven for doing good deeds for others.

You can't believe in God 'for the respect of your family'; I just thought I'd point that out. The final part of your post is your real reason you believe in God. If you believe in something you don't necessarily need to justify why.

Taking on from what you said, I don't think those forcing their beliefs on others need to shut up. There's a whole bunch of people you look at and say they need to but they certainly don't. You got everyone fighting for their cause, we might disagree with it, but they do have that right.

I don't see how religion hinders the development of our species.

Most religious people acknowledge this, and it's not like we protest against it, because I haven't heard of such things.

Also, most religions have "rules" which the people follow, therefore leading better lives like the Christians, we don't kill or "blow shit up." That's the Muslims.

Oh yes, Christians don't murder people for their religion, except for all the times they have. Witch hunts, Crusades, and so forth.

My perspective is always be discering with the information you are told/ hear and only stick to what you know. What is true to you may not be true to others, and sharing some of your own experiences of what you know with what others may not have experienced will bring up there doubt on the matter, and it will in most cases bring up the fear they hold inside themselfs to the surface, and they often try and resist what you say and force there beliefes on the matter.

Only take somthing as truth if it has happened in your own life, because then you truely know what is real and what isnt. When you blindly accept religions and ideas you start building castles of sand, illusions in the mind, and have no base.
You cannot fall back onto an idea in your mind, but you can relax on the earth below your feet.

I was also thinking the other day, as an infant / child, you could go up and lie to anyone about anything. Now imagin if one day somone thought.. "how can i make people scared? AH HA i know i'll make up that there is a punishing god unless they act good."

I think we are all extremely innocent, and are easily purswaded to drop our own discernment to be "good".

I also watch videos from a teacher called Lincoln, who is a spiritual guru and has countless ammounts of videos on all sorts of subjects, such as god, love, emotions, mind, health, and much more. If anyone is interested type "channelhigherself" into youtube.
