Thesis is quite simple.

 

One pursues a higher education for the purpose of educating oneself in the projected field of their future job(s), and by doing so helps educate themselves in said field while gaining both experience and intellect about said field and also signaling to future employers a willingness to dedicate themselves to learning and understanding the field of their choice. 

 

 

Hate to quote myself, but you could theoretically add in, to potentially contribute to society and/or their field of study through research and unprecedented theories.

To get a high paying job you need to get to college.

Yet another person who has been brainwashed by the United States. You don't need college to succeed. Well maybe you do, but there are some people who are smart who can teach them selves things. Most of the extremely successful people dropped out of school. So you sir, are completely wrong.

I've got mixed feelings for college/uni.

One of my friends who's fresh out of highschool and who's been working at a factory got promoted to super viser which makes 20$ per hour (CDN) and hasn't set foot in college yet. You can work your way up and make up to 23$ per hour.

My cousin on the other hand went into university for economics and after 5 years of schooling in university. She's making 16$ per hour.

My friend who hasn't gone to college yet is a powerseller on eBay and makes at least 80 sales per week, ranging from 5-60$ per item. He makes around 7-9k per month.

If you're fucking around in college/university and don't have any idea what path you want to take, you'll be in debt. If you've got some sort of idea for a career and have the interest and motivation to pursue it, it's worth it.

If you're going to work with "your hands" as we call it in Belgium there's no need to go to college.

I agree with everyone who is saying college is a waste. Be honest here, who really goes for the education anymore? It's all about the parties. If partying didn't exist do you really think people would now pay $20k a year to get a solid education? It's all a scam, and imposed on us by the media that it is "required" to go to college. College is merely a tool to become more knowledgeable, you can either use the tool or not.

 

I'm a senior now and next year I'm going to a community college. At the same time I'm going to be at home increasing my programming knowledge through online sources, and looking for any easy consulting jobs that I could do. I'm NEVER going to be the guy that has to wake up at a certain time and be in the office or else I get fired, I'm working for myself.
