Which is better? - (And i mean for making scripts for OsBot not general programming)

Why is it better? - (Does one have an advantage over one for scripting? ie. different functions/lower level of programming)

Which is easier for making scripts? - (Syntax, forgiving for beginners, and again better functions..ect...shortcut's & such)

Which is better? - Personally, I prefer java

Why is it better? - Both almost have the same functions, I dont really know about Groovy I just know its very similar to java and also Groovy code doesnt need to be compiled to work

Which is easier for making scripts? - Syntax, well i prefer Java syntax although Groovy's is easier to learn for beginners

Thank you Wiz for your input, I really appreciate it.

lets get some more input

Everyone rides Java because it is what they are used to. Groovy isn't much different at all though. I suppose I don't really have a preference.

Groovy was kinda cool because it doesn't have class files like java does, but other than that I prefer java

Thanks guys, but im not asking which of the two are your preference, im asking the questions that i stated in my original post.

I was hoping a dev or well know scripter would elaborate on my questions

Groovy sucks in terms of security (no great way to compile into secure files) and it deviates from Java in some places, so you have to learn something in addition to Java... Java works 100% fine, so I wouldn't dream of switching.

The only pro I see with groovy is that you don't have to compile on your end.

The difference pretty much comes down to one thing (the language differences are neglectable): Groovy doesn't need you to compile which speeds up development, Java allows you to jar your files into packages to be used by the client. I would say, Groovy for development, Java for releases. One can be converted to the other within no time.

Btw, Groovy can be compiled into .class files. It's a JVM language, meaning that it uses the JVM directly meaning that it has to be compiled on run-time automatically. Basically if you didn't understand that, Groovy takes advantage of the JVM's features without HAVING to compile. However, that doesn't mean it can't be compiled ahead-of-time into bytecode and then obfuscated for releases.
