I have my own ipb forum with this hook http://webflake.net/files/file/881-rc34-staff-online-sidebar-202/ i think you should add it so people know who to go to when they are online. 

Would be feature to have instead of having to search through the immense players online.

Support, would be handy to see the ones online rather than having to look through the list of active users.

I find it simple enough to just scroll down to the "Users Online" section and look for the Green , Red, or Pink glowing names.

 

I don't find it super necessary.

I agree with @YoHoJo, it seems unnecessary. The moderator rank(s) are already very noticeable down the bottom of the page with the online users. It just duplicates a feature already on the site and clutters up the forum.
