Starting a new adventure!

Hello all!

So being a Runescape fan since 2005, I have always had a big interest in the game. Playing on and off since then, I used to bot way back in 2006 but after absolutely abusing it my account eventually got banned, back then they used to unban your accounts after a certain amount of time, so when OSRS was released I decided to play properly. While at the same time I have worked in IT for nearly 9 years now. I have done everything from development to being an IT Manager so botting, script making have always interested me and I am now at a point in my life where I have time to invest into this topic. So I have experience in terms of working with operating systems, hardware and development but no idea about botting and script making, what makes a good script and how to reliably gold farm, that's what I am going to learn!

So I have got a VPS setup and everything so I can begin to setup a small bot farm. It is much harder these days I know but its the challenge I am looking forward to!

Just a question or two, can anyone recommend a proxy service they know is good and reliable and two is there any good documentation or guides for scripting for OSRS? Just to help me get started!

I look forward to joining your community, and learning!

I also have quite an extensive knowledge of servers, linux, web hosting and much more so please feel free to contact me if you think I can help with anything.

There is the following guide https://osbot.org/forum/topic/115124-explvs-scripting-101/ by explvs which is a pretty good starting point to get the general idea.
If you have some Java experience already you could also just jump straight to the documentation: https://osbot.org/api/

I only just recently started using osbot, but it is very similiar in interface to many of the other bot clients, so if you have some familiarity there then many of the same concepts carry over, but I have found osbot to be pleasently easy to work with.

In regards to proxies: You propably want to make sure to avoid using shared or hosted ones. Other than that the best recommendation is probably also to try and avoid the ones you see pop up most in searches on the forum. I dont have anything concrete to base it on, but using proxies that most people use might not be ideal.

Edit: Oh, and this map, also by explvs is a godsend: https://explv.github.io/  (that dude deserves a medal)

Thank you for the welcoming reply Apocryphal!

Brilliant, thank you very much for them links, I will look into them now!

To be honest I haven't touched on Java in many years but focused on developing API's for many companies focusing on Midware for small to large businesses in a variety of programming languages, developing websites and web hosting so this should be a fun thing to learn!

That map is absolutely amazing, it must have taken some time to compile all of that together, thank you very much!

Yeah I read they have been cracking down on IP's for some time now, that just leaves me with doubt about using proxies. I guess that is something I will probably have to learn too in terms of what providers are best to use. I will just have to start with a couple of different ones and see how I get on. I know the importance of this step all too well, so I need to get it right before moving onto anything bigger.

It would be cool if Jadex had an API to create accounts but I imagine that would cause them so many problems!

My pleasure.

Agreed on the account creation part.
I imagine you propably touched on an equivelent tool during your work, but if not then I can recommend Selenium as a starting point for solving that issue. Put some time into finding a good email provider for it that isnt too restrictive, but still legit. Will safe you a lot of pain down the road.

Cool thanks for the info and tips!

I have a VPS running and I have brought some SOCKS5 proxies to get started.

Now I am going to create around 10 accounts, im not sure what to bot yet but I am probably going to buy a script rather than use any of the free ones.

Is it worth buying sim cards to just make legit gmail accounts to use as email addresses? You can link more than one to each number so might lessen the ban rate maybe as they are a big email provider? Not that it would matter that much I guess, im just trying to think of a way to try safeguard myself as much as I can. I know the bans will come but its all about delaying that process right?

Definitly. I used gmail before on another client, sourcing several from one account. It seems like it might be easy for them to chain ban accounts like that, but I have not had it happen personally (at least I dont believe that to have been the cause the few times it has happened). My only other concern is that that seems to be the solution a lot of people go with.

Crack coconuts. 500k/hr and afk.

afk methods work best low ban rate. Nmz and apa cooker are solid very low ban rate scripts in my experience. Cooking is profitable too btw.

Nice one I might just try that! There are some really odd money makers out there aren't there, I have a couple of ideas but no idea how profitable they will be yet. Excited to crack on, would you recommend doing some quests and getting some stats on each account even for methods with no reqs?

I believe it helps if you "handplay" the accounts a bit first, but again nothing but assumption and anecdotal experience to back it up. But it really depends on how you want to approach it. If you are going to suicide f2p bots then it might just be a waste of time, but if you are going for p2p or stuff with higher reqs then you probably should.

A happy medium could be to get a good script that does some randomized early gameplay for you. Kill some different mobs, burry some bones, complete a few random quests etc. ( <- ties nicely into needing to get over the trade limit on f2p accounts)

Variety, safe scripts, human like play times are key. If you are planning to only crack coconuts all week it is likely u get banned within a week. Its best to mix it up. Switch task every 1-3 days. Hand-play is not important. I bot during the day with breaks and shut it off at sleep time. So maybe I bot minimum 10 hours per day with breaks. Max 16 with breaks. 3 hours bot time 40 minutes break time.

If you use a proxy, try to get a residential provider (they exist). As for gold farming methods, Youtube and Google are your friends. Most will keep their best methods to themselves and so should you. Don't expect to succeed without investing a lot of time and money into testing. Good luck.

I have been using my proxy and it seems to be working absolutely fine so far, ive not been locked out yet anyway. How long before you normally see an issue with being locked out before if using a non residential IP address? All seems to be going well so far!

Yeah I don't plan on F2P suiciding accounts if I can help it, I would like to run between 50-70 accounts in the end, im starting with just 5 at the moment. No issues yet, I just want to get some baseline results so I can see if what I am doing is working, what script works the best etc etc. Yeah I don't plan on botting more than 8 hours on each account in the week but go a little harder on the weekends.
