Laptop heating

Featured Replies

So I'm using a laptop to run all of my bots. Got a i7-3610qm and 8 gb of ram, and running 6 bots atm. I'm not using low cpu on any of them right now cause it glitches out the scripts, but I'm just wondering how far I can push my laptop before it starts becoming in danger of wearing out. It's only using around 50-60% cpu most of the time, but it seems like overheating could be a problem in the future.

Idle temperature is normally around 40 degrees, but when I'm running all my bots, after a few hours I'm pushing 90. I think the intel chips are supposed to be good for under 110 or 120, but I'm just worried I may be pushing my laptop too hard. I currently have it on 24/7 to bot, but am I in danger of damaging my laptop if I keep this up?

Using low cpu it only goes to around high 70's in temperature, so I normally leave it like that overnight. I have a cooling pad with a built in fan, but I have an HP laptop and from experience they seem have pretty bad cooling systems in their laptops.

I'm probably going to get a VPS soon, but should I be worried at all about this?

HP laptop> very bad cooling.

Umm if you already have a cooling pad there isn't much more I could suggest other than maybe another usb desk fan to blow cold air onto it? If you're getting a VPS soon I wouldn't worry but I would get the VPS sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I seriously have no idea what I was thinking when I got an HP laptop. My old laptop was an HP and died from overheating :/ The one I'm using right now is a usb fan, its fairly old though with some dust build up, so I might get a new one

I run 10 bots on macbook pro and its not even warm. Try closing any internet tabs or stuff. Also have multiple clients with maybe 2 bots on each, that helps me.

Are you using low cpu though?

I have the same problem with just being on the computer (also HP) it gets very hot too.

What I do is put ice on it but thats not the solution. You can try to take breaks (if you arent already) and purchase a cool pad.

I've pushed my laptop to much, can only run afew games and it cuts out. Whenever CPU reaches 80+ the whole thing turns off. :(

I recommend standing the laptop on its lid.

i have a hp to and it heats up pretty quickly, what i do is just put something under it to where the vent isnt above anything, the more free the vent is the less it heats it and its worked pretty well for me.

The instagram link with the cooling rack for things out of the oven is a good idea. I was going to suggest putting together a little square stand with the middle chopped out so the laptop could breathe but the cooling rack is easier. That + a fan, if you're still having problems the laptop is horrible

I found out that my intel processor was constantly turbo boosting even when I was only using like 40-50% cpu at less than 2ghz. I changed to settings so it won't go much over 1.9-2ghz and i'm sitting at a comfortable 50-60 degrees even without the cooling pad on.

Srsly? i got a macbook pro 13inch and its hot as fk after 1 hour botting

Depends, where you keep your computer. I had my DELL laptop overheating many times in day, and even if I had game running, it just needed 15 minutes to shutdown lol.

Now I realized one thing, I just put big book under my computer so it gets air from underneath.
