what is it for?

(just studied marketing so its all i can think of right now)

does the tie/houses symbolise anything

Graphic Design services for branding.

The city is meant to represent an actual 'city' if that makes sense.

The 2nd concept is a pen integrated along with the letter A.

There's a logo and then there's branding. Both work together cohesively.

I feel as though you're using a vector of some sort, slapping some text on there and calling it a logo.

Are you familiar with Illustrator? If so, you might draw up an "A" concept or "A + S" concept and attempt to vector that out in Illustrator to create a personal logo.

I would look into a different font. Perhaps a medium font, nothing too bulky but nothing slender either.

Options 2 & 3 are on the right track, 1 & 4 need to go. They make almost no sense and look very unprofessional.

EDIT:

Here might be a useful source in explaining my point: http://www.bourncreative.com/what-is-the-difference-between-a-logo-and-a-brand/
