YUP! ANOTHER GOD THREAD!

Featured Replies

So, throughout my school career, I've been taking science courses. I believe I've come to understand what I've been told, what I've read in textbooks, and how it applies to everyday life. But one thing stuck out to me.

Generally

The Law of Conservation (of matter, energy, etc.)

If you don't know what it is, The Law of Conservation is basically a scientific law stating that, basically, energy, matter, etc. cannot be created nor can it be destroyed.

This is a law of the universe; of nature.

Even in the thought of The Big Bang Theory, there was some start with matter. Matter, energy, etc. could not have just come into play, unless something decided to override this universal law. This is the Law of Conservation. Here's where the thought of a "god" comes in.

Here's the definition of "god":

the one Supreme Being, the creator and ruler of the universe.

Here's the definition of "ruler":

a person who rules or governs; sovereign.

Here's the definition of "rules"/rule:

control, government, or dominion: under the rule of a dictator.

Edit: If you don't believe my definitions, I copied and pasted them directly from dictionary.com if you were truly curious.

So basically, a "god" is something that controls/rules the universe and controls its laws - and can override them. Do you see where I'm going with this? You should be able to. If not, let me continue.

Since we've established that matter had to have come from somewhere and that the Law of Conservation must have been overridden somehow - where did matter, energy, etc. all come from? Where did the matter that caused the big bang and is now in us and floating around in space actually come from?

God.

This may seem like a simple answer, but think about it.

It had to have come from something that could override and control universal laws. Even if it was not consciously doing it, it must've come from something that decided to override that law. By our definitions, even if it is not what you think of as God, it is a god.

Thoughts? Ideas? Came up with this myself... I want to see if there are flaws in my thinking...

When u see all the suffering and death its hard to beileve ..

But that doesn't change what I've been saying. It may be horrible... I realize this, but morals don't change it...

When u see all the suffering and death its hard to beileve ..

You know I used to think the same way but I read this in a book, which helped me look at it differently.

“You are confused because the Bible describes God as an omnipotent and benevolent deity…Omnipotent-benevolent simply means that God is all-powerful and well-meaning.”

I understand the concept. It’s just…there seems to be a contradiction.”

Yes. The contradiction is pain. Man’s starvation, war, sickness…”

Exactly!” Chartrand knew the camerlengo would understand. “Terrible things happen in this world. Human tragedy seems like proof that God could not possibly be both all-powerful and well-meaning. If He loves us and has the power to change our situation, He would prevent our pain, wouldn’t He?”

The Camerlengo frowned. “Would He?”

Chartrand felt uneasy. Had he overstepped his bounds? Was this one of those religious questions you just didn’t ask? “Well…if God loves us, and He can protect us, He would have to. It seems He is either omnipotent and uncaring, or benevolent and powerless to help.”

Do you have children, Lieutenant?”

Chartrand flushed. “No, signore.”

Imagine you had an eight-year-old son…would you love him?”

Of course.”

Would you let him skateboard?”

Chartrand did a double take. The camerlengo always seemed oddly “in touch” for a clergyman. “Yeah, I guess,” Chartrand said. “Sure, I’d let him skateboard, but I’d tell him to be careful.”

So as this child’s father, you would give him some basic, good advice and then let him go off and make his own mistakes?”

I wouldn’t run behind him and mollycoddle him if that’s what you mean.”

But what if he fell and skinned his knee?”

He would learn to be more careful.”

The camerlengo smiled. “So although you have the power to interfere and prevent your child’s pain, you would choose to show your love by letting him learn his own lessons?”

Of course. Pain is part of growing up. It’s how we learn.”

The camerlengo nodded. “Exactly.”

tl:dr

God is a parent, he gives advice and we make our own mistakes but he doesn't follow behind us  and watch everything we do. He wants us to be more careful, and although he has the power to prevent all the pain we endure, he wants us to learn from what we do to better ourselves.

The book is Angels and  Demons, by Dan Brown, if anyone is curious.

There is no real definition to god, you're copy pasting it from most likely a Christian based usersite. There are many other religions which are have a completely different meaning of god.

I don't think that dictionary.com is giving me a "Christian based usersite"'s definition. Also, I'm not Christian...

Did you read the post? No one has actually even responded to the topic yet..

God, for let's just say the biggest religions in the world (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism), is someone (or something) who/that can control and manipulate the universe, nature, etc. to his will.

I call it brainwashing really , and in the words of Richard Dawkins : child abuse forcing your children to believe that if they do wrong there burn in hell.

Also look at all the evil down in the name of religion ..

If it's not Christian, idk what it is, my parents religion and neighbouring religions are very different from your definition. And afaik, that definition follows what Christians believe in.

I'm Muslim, and why would someone want to brainwash people into doing the RIGHT thing?

A religion isn't a living thing, it's a belief system that people choose to follow. A religion can tell someone to do the right thing, and they choose to do the wrong.

Is it then the religions fault?

Why spend your life devoting yourself to someone you don't even no is there?

Why not love yourself .

Are You scared of dieying ?

So by holding my hands together and talking to myself, I can magically speak to a invisible person ...
