Hey guys! I'm currently very interested in starting and making a private server for Runescape. I know there are a lot out there already but I'm really confident that I will succeed in whatever I want to reach. But to start off I need a couple of things to actually make the server. I won't be putting it online as I do want to make it close to flawless. Is there anyone around here whom has knowledge of starting a server? You can implement a system that allows players to donate for the community server, simply to keep it alive. Another thought I have is that, but it might sound stupid, to make a RuneScape 07 based server available to anyone, more like a "Wilderness"-server. It could serve as a advertisement for OSBot(Having OSBot in the name of the server, or a link to this forum anywhere on the site), so you can ask Maldesto to get you a budget to start off with.

There are a lot of free modpacks around, Technicpack is a good site if you are looking for a modpack. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions regarding hosting a MC Server.

How many players are we talking about? Note: A Minecraft server is easy to DDoS, alot of those hosts have "controlpanels" where you can log into and change this in your server. The problem with DDoS is that your server will automatically restart but most of the times your controlpanel will still be offline. Hosting a server, a decent one, requires a DDoS protection aswell, and that isn't cheap. If you just want it to be a simple server, I'd suggest to take a host up to 20-50 players and don't get a DDoS protection. ( this costs about 20$ per month which is pretty cheap. )

I've hosted a MC server in the past and used Beastnode as host which I recommend but that's your call. I've worked on 2 MC PvP servers, which took a lot of work, both doing really good. 1 of them is hosted on Beastnode, the other one is hosted at home.

Watch tutorials, practise yourself, get feedback and improve. YouTube is a great source with tutorials! Deviantart is a great source of examples of other peoples work! You don't have to code if you just want to design, although if you want to be like a graphic designer for websites you will have to know some coding such as html/css,jQuery,JavaScript,PHP etc. What I used to teach myself coding is thenewboston.org , he has a lot of vids explaining all kinds of programming and designing.
