Thats the goal Woody! Im sure others would find this useful when traveling around the wilderness doing clues or collecting resources. 

Npcs and players can only be detected in a range of +- 16 tiles.

Thats exactly the range of the minimap

 

Objects can be detected in the range indeed ^^
