St Louis Powell shooting

video emerged on youtube showing Powell being shot and killed on the street. ( i only just saw it last night on the fight depot FB page) I found it quite shocking and left me unsure after hearing the original story. I felt he deserved it at first because the official story was he came at police with a knife. Fair play you try to stab a cop your guna get shot. But after seeing the video he is at least 10-12 feet away and didnt have the knife in a overhand position, leading me to believe no lethal force could have been used instead of shooting someone from reasonable close range 6 times, twice in the head. Then to top it off they handcuff the corpse after he is clearly dead. What the fuck is that?

thoughts anyway?

no racism or hate here please, only serious thoughts.

But yet if it was someone defending themselves against someone allegedly coming at them with a knife, even if it was 10 feet away, that person wouldn't get any hate. I'm sick of idiots thinking they're high and mighty because they can say "fuck the police".

lol you act like the guy was going to jump 10 metres and slice their necks open

could've taken 1 bullet to take the guy down / 1 tase

police officers are known for wanting to escalate things you saw the way they pulled up all aggressive with guns drawn

If I had a tazer and another officer with me then yeah, I would NEVER have shot somebody.

It'd have been very easy to manhandle someone 2v1 when you have a tazer, mace, and a gun that can be shot at their legs.

These cops shot to kill, when they were in no danger. If you or I would have done that we'd be in jail.

^^^^ this, perfectly worded.

they drove up there CLOSE to him, they didn't keep any distance, they put themselves in that situation and approached it very aggressively, as you said, they shot to kill.

also, officers are trained to defuse situations like this right... isn't that what police training is all about?

i have to agree with faded. I find it hard to believe you need to shoot someone 6 times when they are not shooting back at you let alone even have a gun.

nice to see so many people viewing this thread, lets hear your opinions guys/girls?????

they had the guts to handcuff him and keep their guns pointed at him after they put 7+ bullets into him

I could easily go 10 meters before either of those cops could pull out a tazer, and even if they could would you be willing to risk your life on one shot? Because that's all their going to get.

Debatable whether or not we'd be in jail, however you're expressing the opinion of someone who wasn't in the situation. If he did in fact have a knife despite there being two of them and one of him he could have easily killed one of them if they resorted to a mace only. Shooting a gun and hitting someones legs is hard as fuck, getting out your tazer takes time, and while you're doing that he could be on you in seconds. Why would the cops risk their life for some blithering idiot saying "shoot me"?

They're required to, it's in their training. If our military acted like that we wouldn't have a country right now.

I'd be interested to see @Alek's opinion on this.

This is where you're wrong, no.

Example: If I kill a police dog being afraid, I killed a police officer and it's homicide. If a Police officer kills my dog being afraid, nothing. Nadda - it's justified, even if they're in my back yard.

And no, they came close to him. These cops are cops because they can deal with situations like this, but no... these guys are cowards. They were scared, so they shot him out of fear. That's bullshit. You don't pull out your guns because someone has a knife, you talk with them. If they run at you, you can back-up. These guys did neither, they stood there due to ego - and they shot at kill zones.

And that's so bullshit, if they said he was 4 feet away(he wasn't) - then a little girl can shoot someone in the legs. It's a very easy shot even for those not skilled at shooting, but a police officer who has gone through training? It's as easy as riding a bike. Want to know what's harder? The 2 fucking headshots they got.

People want to complain that people like the knife holder are all over america and nobody does anything about it, but when someone's life is at risk and they take action about it they get all this controversy. The amount of corruption people think american police to be amazes me. As if they didn't warn him over and over before shooting him. They clearly had their guns out and not tasers, It wasn't quickdraw or concealed and he was fully aware of that and decided to go in head first.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't have used their tazers or that 6 times was a justified amount, but saying that all american police departments is so far from the truth I can't even. Saying that they viewed this individual as a shooting range target or free trophy is just disgusting.

Yeah... no. Cops have killed more innocent people than terrorists.

How can you think that any Cop is good when the people who see if he did anything bad is his superiors? LOL
