Good thing I'm not verified

lmao, I was thinking this last night. Everyone else in the top 5 fb'd is verified except you. xD

As @RoomScape said, it would be a pain in the ass to transfer every contact to your new skype. :p

Safety first.

1. Use a hard to guess password such as "w2tevY12&J4f"

2. Don't Download .exe files.

3.  Scan your system weekly/daily

Now a Micro$oft account isn't needed.

The issue is not a hacker guessing/keylogging a password, the issue lies within the Skype recovery system. If you talk long enough with Skype support, they will give access to any account. Thus this is why Skype's recovery system is extremely flawed and unsafe to use.

They don't get into your account be you being at fault, they get on your account by Skype being at fault. They go to skype customer service and ask for the info and skype says:

ok! You sound like a trustworthy guy even though I have no clue who you are. I'll change your registered e mail address that you've had on here for three years to something totally different because I believe in you.

I've changed it so you can recover your pass, have a great day kind sir!

That's basically it in a nutshell.

tl;dr - Skype is gay.

fyi, skype is owned by microsoft.

It's a company bought by Microsoft, although Skype still has their own team that handles their accounts. This team is the team that flaws their security system.

Which are forced by microsoft. Linking your email won't help because you can still recover it through live chat social engineering which is indeed highly flawed unless you actually use non-obvious information. Like name, birthdate, purchase id, purchase method, ...

The email becomes a non-factor when you say you don't have access to the email.

I think it should just be a suggested thing to do, as I myself am too lazy to do this again.

As stated before, the problem is the Skype support. It is way more lenient than Microsoft's support team (No they are not the same teams). You can also see that the number of Skype hackings with live: is far less than regular ones registered with Skype.
