DotA 2 - $10 million on the line - NEWBEE!

Featured Replies

For those of you that are unaware, this is the BIGGEST Prize pool of any ESPORTS game.

You can read about it here.

And watch it here.

NEWBEE has gone from the bottom 4 bracket, (One game away from getting sent home)

To one game away from making it to the Grand Finals, they are on a KILLING SPREE!

It's insane to watch a team go from the very bottom to the very top, they have so many supporters now its unreal!

Micro transactions at its finest, I'm impressed.

If you're talking about the prize pool, it's actually fan-funded.

That's what I'm talking about.

Fan-funded as in fan-bough and not fan-donated :p

I'm 90% sure it's from donations blink.png

The $10 million prize fund is even crazier if you consider that only 25% of Compendium sales went towards that total. Each Compendium (an interactive digital guide that accompanies the tournament) costs $10, but only $2.50 from each sale was added to the total; the other $7.50 filled Valve’s coffers. If we remove the $1.6 million that Valve originally contributed to the prize fund, this means Dota 2 players actually paid $33.6 million to boost the fund by $8.4 million. Valve pocketed the remaining $25.2 million. Not bad for a free-to-play game developed by a company with around 300 employees (that would be a take-home bonus of $84,000 each, in case you’re wondering).

But if you think about it, fans really got nothing worth that $10 in the game, it was by choice, no one asked them too, just offered some silly items in game and skins/odds and ends, its not like it GAVE us anything we couldn't get without it.

Well, how much do they need to put into the venue, broadcasting, etc.

It's being covered by ESPN & all of that.

But still pretty cool, and it's been somewhat entertaining to watch.

with 25 million in the pocket for hiring ONE Person from Warcraft 3, I don't think they really care how much they spend on hosting it :P

Meh I'm not even going to bother.

I don't blame you for not seeing their scheme, it's a brilliant one after all, hence why I'm impressed by it tongue.png
