Purpose of college?

Featured Replies

I'm not even going to read what you wrote in the post, I just read the title and knew whatever it contained will be retarded.

Education, qualifications and an improved chance at a successful future.

Edited by Jupiters Lament

To further your education past a basic level and to show cerification to various companies and employers.

To take all of your money and place you further into debt. Also to put you out of the job market for a few more years.

Money scam. What makes college so much different from high school that should make it so damn expensive? Everything is about money. People go broke after college, have debts, its just meh.

It is a joke. College/University does not prepare you for a career. It simply gives you a piece of paper saying you are qualified, and it also gives you confidence. Completing High School/Post-secondary does not make you a smart person, and does not mean you are educated. Even if you finished with 100%. It just means that you were able to play the game, and put up with the pathetic system. So, to answer your question, the purpose is to breed out these kids who will complete menial tasks without giving it a second thought, then telling you that you are smart, educated, and an asset to society, when all you have is debt, and a piece of paper.

If for any reason you think college is useless, that could be true in some situations such as celebrities, but education always looks good on a resume. You need certifications in a lot of important jobs in life nowadays.

Yes please, teach yourself to become a civil engineer, chemist, chartered accountant, statistician. All of these fields and numerous others are simple concepts that you learn playing 'the game'.

Furthermore, if you attend a half decent college or university you're able to gain your experience in co-op programs and pay off your debt during these work periods. In addition, said work periods typically result in job offers following the completion of your certificate, diploma or degree.

The top 2-3 Students immediately get job offers from companies. the rest are left to find a job themselves.

You can't be a doctor without going to college.

You can't be a lawyer without going to college.

You can't be successful without going to college.

Do you want to make 30 grand a year working at McDonald's? Barely able to support a family?

To get a high paying job you need to get to college.

well i got my diploma when i turned 20 and will be done my bachelors at 22. I make 35$/hour right now at 20 only because of my diploma, i work with adults who are much older than myself and have much more education. the only reason i was hired was because of my education and i know how to sell myself. So i guess the purpose of college is to help you get a job that can pay enough for you to live well or something, lifes all about $$ when you get older unfortunatly. I don't even know if 35/hour is a lot of money to be making, i work part time 20 hours a week and go to school about 30 hours a week full time, most people i went to high school with still work the same dead end job for less than 10$ an hour and havent stepped foot in uni/college so i guess im doing something right.

Job offers do not mean you are qualified, or smart. School appeals to people who can not do things on their own because they get to partake in the system even though it means nothing. Go to college if you want to get laid, if you want an education, go to the library.
