Workout progress

Featured Replies

I am going to start working out everyday starting today. I've never been the biggest guy, up until 2 years ago I was under 4 feet. I am now 5'7, 5'8 and I just want to get a decent build and eventually gain mass. I've been athletic my whole life, baseball, wrestling, and football. At the moment the only thing I dedicate my time to is baseball and it's off season. I've decided I am going to rejoin wrestling this year to help me gain mass. I will be posting picture of my weekly progress.

I plan on buying protein supplements once I get a decent build. So everyone laugh while you can...

Week 1

Age: 14

Height: 5'8

Weight: 130

Yea, that's been one of the big issues why I could never get big even though I was so athletic. I could never eat a lot.

-.- Considering you probably don't have an actual steady workout, its extremely stupid to just start taking protein, since it will just metabolize into fat. Although you have a mesomorph body structure, don't think you will stay scrawny for long. Taking in large quantities of protein, which is what you will do since you're and eager child will just do you harm.

In addition, working out at 14 avoid exercises such as squatting and seated shoulder press, as they will for sure stunt you're growth.

True. Also don't take any pills that promise you to get muscles easily.

It's one big scam and not healthy at all!

Good luck with this. I'm in similar shoes but I never have motivation to work out.

In the post it says once I get a decent build and that means once I get a decent workout.

Ah, build usually means structure, so I assumed you're body. Then best of luck to you, remember stick to whey protein, avoid pro flex, and look for 70% protein 30% fat content shakes. Try not to go 100% Protein.

Goodluck man, I was in your shoes a few years ago. I've been working out steady since and I have to admit for my age I'm pretty big.

As for waiting to do exercises because their going to "harm" you, that's a load of crap. If you do the movement with proper technique, and not an overly heavy load, you'll be fine. Also, don't listen to everyone who tells you about taking off days and waiting for your body to rebuild, that's also a load of crap in a sense. Yes it's important to let your body rebuild, but at age 14 with your body type (I'm guessing your not going to be doing overly intense workouts) a long wait period isn't required. Remember, it's YOUR body, feel it out day by day to see whats best for you.

Just a little side note if you're interested in not only building muscle but staying tone, HIIT is the way to go (or Crossfit). I've been getting into this a lot lately and crossfit mixed with intense lifting days have done me wonders. It also uses body weight style workouts, so you'll be sure to get a full body workout without looking at yourself a few months down the line and looking weird with overly huge biceps :P

You're giving him the wrong impressions. If he does exercises such as dead-lifts or squats, anything that applies ALOT of pressure on the back, and if technique is not right that's it man, you can displace discs or just simply injure yourself.  In order to get technique it takes months of work, it doesnt happen all in a day like you said. Now also your body does need time to rebuild and 1-2 days is more then enough time, no more. That does not mean you cannot workout, just work out different sections and muscles. Leg+back, Shoulders+Core, bic+tri

Shit like that.

If he can lift it it obviously isn't to much weight :P

No offence to him or anything but as a beginner to lifting he's not exactly going to be busting out 10 reps of 400. From the looks of him maybe 100 for a few reps or so. Yes weight lifting is dangerous, but people look at it to technically. You just gotta do it.

I wouldn't suggest working out at 14 years old but since you seem determined I'll share my thoughts.

I don't see how he's a full meso, looks more ecto-meso especially considering he's 5'8 at 14 (although since he weights 130 I could be wrong). The protein is fine you can take the recommended serving or double it depending on your  protein intake for that day (Note you need about 200g of protein a day at your current weight) you'll pee out the excess protein anyways. Although you're trying to gain mass I suggest you stay away from weight gainers until you become consistent in your workouts otherwise it'll turn into fat especially since you're on off season and have no mandatory training. Other than that stay away from squats and shit like stated above, learn to count calories and stay away from stupid useless supplements.

For eating, I heard you should eat every 2 hours whether it's a snack or full meal. When I eat a full meal, when do I stop?

If you're hungry eat, if not, don't eat.

You're making the same mistake I did, which is looking to much into things and getting technical. Weight lifting is simple, if you workout and consume enough extra calories and protein to build muscle, you get big. No if's ands or buts.

But yeah if you want to stay lean the general idea is to eat small meals throughout the day. Getting big requires to eat an excess amount of food though, or else you're muscles won't have anything to use to grow. Refer to my first sentence as a general rule.
