the questions are these

  1. What is the single effect of the story on the reader?
  2. How do all incidents help Poe to establish this effect?
  3. How does the first sentence bring out the horror of the tale?
  4. How does the whole story follow a single pre-established design?
  5. Does the reader feel satisfied at the end of the story?

And the questions are referring to the story: -The Tell Tale Heart-

Edited by GoldenGate

1. The story is meant to terrify the reader, either in horror or disgust.

2. Poe gives very vivid details of the murder, and allows the reader to be immersed in a lunatics world. By telling the story from a first person view, it allows the reader to be more involved in the story, and makes it easier to visualize the grotesque nature of the story.

3.The first sentence gives the reader a sense of the nature of the murderer, a crazed lunatic. It is meant to make the narrator appear edgy throughout the story, and increases the effect that the description of the murder has on the reader later in the story.

4. The main character is clearly not in his right mind from the very beginning. The story is based around his madness, how it leads him to murder an innocent man, to how it leads to his demise.

5. Yes, the reader is satisfied at the end of the story because they feel a sense of karmic righteousness as the murderer is punished for his crime, as if the victim got revenge after his passing.
