HI all,

I'm interesting in buying a refurnished server for botting.
Found an internetstore with depot close by.

Custom setup:

HP PROLIANT ML350P GEN8

  • CPU

    Xeon E5-2650 / 2.00GHz / Eight Core / QPi 8.00 / Cache 20MB / TDP 95W / 64-bit P/N: SR0KQ, SR0H4

  • CPU 2

    Xeon E5-2650 / 2.00GHz / Eight Core / QPi 8.00 / Cache 20MB / TDP 95W / 64-bit P/N: SR0KQ, SR0H4

  • HDD

    1 x 1000GB 7.2K SAS 2.5" Dual port, 6G, ORIGINEEL DELL [P/N: 9W5WV, 09W5WV]

  • Power Supply Unit

    2 x 2x HP 460W Platinum, Power Supply, HSTNS-PL28 P/N: 643931-001

Question:

How many bots can I run on this? I'm looking to run 30-50 bots.

There is no RAM in the custom setup because I can get free ram.

128GB should be enough for that processing power I suppose?

The total cost is around 700 eur.

Any tips?

Kind regards.

Hungry lad.

Just an FYI, if you are going to use more than 8 ram sticks, you'll need more power from your PSU's

Thanks for the reply,

So if I do understand you correctly:

With this motherboard I can equip 24x 8GB

= 192gb of ram tatal

Seems decent for first botfarm.

Oh no, it can be any amount of RAM.
Just if you use more than 8 physical sticks, please get 800W+ power supplies 😉

You want redundant power supplies, you want to keep load below 60% of the total rating of the psu

You're only getting 8 cores with this, so I'm not sure you'll be able to run many bots. I feel like 128gb of ram is overkill for 8 cores. It feel like 1gb is enough for 1-1.5 bots (each osbot client instance) but my scripts are not fully optimized. My experience with a poorly coded script running off a dl360 g7 w/ xeon 2560 I made using heavy amounts of webwalking: 1 core is enough for 2-2.5 bots. However, that is at max load. I prefer to try to keep stuff at half usage. Currently I'm refactoring my code to use PathWalking, which has pretty much evaporated high CPU load, but I am not done so no benchmarks yet

Have you considered a dual socket or quad socket server? why the ml350? I think I'm gonna get a quad socket unit

IMO 700 euros is too expensive, a g8 proiant server I think should only run you a few hundred

Bear in mind mirror mode is technically 2 clients :doge:  Unless you're doing a stealth injection farm then that's different

yea I just use stealth cause I don't see much of a difference in ban rate for my use case

Your hardware needs will increase with mirror mode

Hi all,

Thanks again for all the information, I did some more research about hardware.  4  CPU socket servers are a bit harsh te get.
Or does anyone know brand/type? Looking for 500-1000 eur refurnished price range.

I found a better alternative with in total 24 cores.
Running a botfarm with 50 bots max seems good for testing the waters:
DELL POWEREDGE R630 8X 2.5"

Price is €600 with no ram or harddrives (I can get those for free)

  • CPU

    2x Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 - 2.50-3.30GHz / 12Core, 24Threads / QPi 9.60 / Cache 30MB / TDP 120W

  • Heatsink

    2x Heatsink for R630 P/N: 0H1M29

  • RAID Controller

Onboard RAID SATA Controller S130 (Software RAID)

  • NDC - Network Daughter Card

    Dell Broadcom 5720 Quad-Port Gigabit P/N: 0FM487

  • Power Supply Unit 750W

    2x Power Supply Dell, 80+ PLATINUM, 750W P/N: TPJ2X, 0TPJ2X

Would this be a good server?
I can make it cheaper if I choose 2x 450W but not sure if that is enough?

Kind regards

That's stupid.

A stick of ram uses like 3w.

A fully loaded server like the above will be like 200w under heavy load, closer to 100w idle.

Yeah this is much better than the first one you looked at. Dual E5-2680v4 would be even better and should cost about the same.

450w is fine.
