magrocks78 Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Hey guys, I’m buying a MacBook for college, any suggestions? I play a little RS but it will mainly be using for school. Should I stay with base i5 processor or pay for the i7, also with ram should I stay with 8 gb base or upgrade to 16?
Muffins Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Unless you're going in to Graphic Design or CS, don't get a macbook. 1
IDontEB Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Just now, Muffins said: Unless you're going in to Graphic Design or CS, don't get a macbook. Even if you're going into CS unless your main goal is iOS app development then just get a normal pc, the same amount of money will get you newer gen specs on the same laptop 3
Swizzbeat Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 If you insist on a Mac an Air will work just fine.
Polo Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 The base i5 8gb ram should be enough for school and rs. I wouldn't spend the extra money for an i7.
The Hero of Time Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 mac? rofl do you just like wasting money or what 1
bkg Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 If you haven't looked at Microsoft's line up yet I'd recommend. I have the new surface pro and I love it for uni.
Norlek Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Only buy a Mac if you enjoy using the Mac OS. Otherwise do what other people are saying and pick a better option. My $0.02: Get the i5/8GB. Most software does not use simultaneous multithreading, so the i7 is not necessary. If you like having leaving all of your tabs open, run many bots, or run virtual machines then it might be worth upgrading to 16GB.
Selected Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 The money you would give for a Mac with i5 is = an i7 PC laptop, go for PC.
AMMO Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I'l sell you my 7yr old hp laptop with 8gb ram and i5 for 200 ;) Works fine! Seriously just look at Microsoft or anything then Mac, unless you want to sit at Starbucks all day on their Wi-Fi, there's no need to be flashy with a Mac You can get MUCH better with a 600-800$ laptop then you could with a Mac equivalent within the same price range 1
