To determine interactions between 2 or players or did they change it to the way RS3 does it and it's "random"

edit: googled and couldn't find anything for osrs

It's random and changes every 1 minute or something like that (not 100% sure)

At start of oldschool it was determined by your IP. Then they made it random 

I don't think so..people abused the hell out of it by selling pid etc

PID still exists, but it switches fairly frequently (I think around once a min or so as another poster said).

ppl used to farm vpn's for better pid which meant first hit in staking. now its randomly generated every 30 seconds to 1min on login
