Two Step Authentication

Two Step Authentication

2. How will this suggestion impact scripters and/or botters?

This will simply reduce the number of people being hacked. It would require people to download an application i.e. Google Authenticator and they would have to enter a code each time they login. They could also potentially 'allow' the authenticator to trust their device for 30 days meaning that they don't have to enter another code until 30 days later.

3. Post any examples such as code or pictures to supplement your description (optional)

Has been in the works for a while and is being looked at. Thanks for the suggestion.

No problem. I know a couple of people who are good with IPB Hooks. You could possibly ask a few people if they could install it. I'm not sure if Maxi or Zach are good themselves with this forum however that could be researched. I suggested 2FA via google authenticator because I think it would cut the costs of having text messages sent per login you see.

Hahaha no worries, the issues aren't in the ability to implement it ourselves, we're quite capable of doing things behind the scenes ;)

Two factor is already built in this version of IPB.

Then how can I enable it?

You can't.

And also where is the evidence that it is already built-in? I'm pretty sure it has to be installed as a hook of some sort.

That is the not latest update as this IPB version is not 4.1.18. I guess we will have to wait for Maxi/Zach or someone else with ACP access to update the forum so that 2FA can be activated. The sooner, the better.

We're most definitely running a version capable of 2FA (4.1.18.x). Activating it is pretty much flipping a switch. I've stated previously that we are interested in it, but there is a reason why we're waiting that we don't plan on making the public privy to.
