Angels
Hey guys, I was wondering if there are any of you who are experienced with networking that could help me out please. The modem provided by my internet provider has a very short range so I was trying to find a way to extend the wifi range. I ended up just randomly connecting one of my old routers to the modem via an ethernet cable and it worked! I just have one issue with this: there are constant random disconnections where my internet connection goes limited and I either have to disconnect and reconnect again or restart the modem and router for it to work again. I'm pretty sure there's some sort of interference going on between the two because one works when the other doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Muffins
I'd suggest buying an actual WiFi signal booster (I recommend netgear)
kazemaru
you could also buy a good modem which costs a bit but you cant keep that things for years instead of a router you gotta buy every few years like muffin said you could use wifi extenders or wifi powerplug/lan powerplugs etc.
lrdblk
Two options Turn the modem to bridge mode and let your router handle all DHCP and traffic QOS Turn the DHCP off on the router and let the modem do all the networking Or there's a physical issue with your old router
LoudPacks
If you have a PC near the modem and said PC can be connected via ethernet and also has a wifi card you can just bridge the connections and then connect to your network thru the PC. You could buy a wifi signal booster. You could buy a raspberry pi 3 for around $35 and use that for the first option if you only have one computer.
