Why is conflict always present in human nature?

If according to the evolutionary theory that a species should adapt to its environment and surroundings over time, how come the human race hasn't evolved past the point of conflict? You would think a race that is fully aware of its consciousness and actions, that we would all cooperate together to overcome all problems within our lifetimes.

Why is our design so flawed?

people settle, build up their civilization, develop some 'nice stuff'. then that civilization falls in 1 of 2 ways:
1st way: people want that 'nice stuff', so they come in and take it forcefully
2nd way: people on the inside grow discontent with their cushy lives and revolt, inadvertently destroying their civilization completely

then the process repeats

thats where the saying 'weak men create hard times, hard times create strong men' comes from

It is the desire to have/accomplish more than others. Jealousy will rise up when others are better than you, so you'll want to be better again so you'll do what it takes. It's greed, power and money what keeps us going. The more you have of power, greed. The lesser you'll think of others. The lesser you have of money, the greater your desire to get money.

tl;dr:

we always want more.
