Just like an ironman you need GP to buy supplies from shops, inevitably there is going to be demand for it. The fact that it is harder to transfer only makes it worth more $$. Combine that with no GP supply from goldfarmers and you get insane gold prices.

At the beginning it will be crazy high as expected. It should stabilize after time though, since it's so easy to lose.
